India’s Lockdown Status

A second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India has overwhelmed the healthcare system due to lack of oxygen and access to hospital beds. Currently, about half of all its states have imposed total shutdown orders with partial shutdown orders everywhere else. Chennai, Bangalore, Tuticorin, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Mumbai, and Delhi will be under full lockdown orders until May 24, 2021.

The country has administered over 168 million vaccine doses. The rate of inoculation has fallen in recent days and about 2.5% (43.5 million) of its 1.4 billion people have received the two doses needed for full immunization. India is the fastest country globally to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses.

The Government of India will allow Customs, warehouses, inland container depots, and transport to work with skeleton staffs as these are considered essential services. Due to the smaller workforce, delays are expected compared to normal operations. We will continue to monitor the situation and update you as it evolves.
